Summary

There are 3 types of business in Quill that you can visit, utilise or even own and run. These are the Goods Store, Blacksmith and the Apothecary. Each Haven within Quill has all 3 of these businesses (and their own Tavern).

Each business is powered by REP which is earned from favourable sales. The cheaper the goods being sold, or the higher the quality, the more REP is earned. REP can be spent in the Ledger on Shop Perks to boost your business, and you can also specialise your shop to access new perks and more opportunities by focussing on specific categories of Items.

Buying a Shop

Once you have met the Grandmasters in the tomb in The Circle as part of the story, you will be given a large red book called The Ledger. This will then appear on every business counter in the land. By interacting with The Ledger, you can opt to buy that business.

Running a Business

Each business plays differently and gives different levels of reward.

The Goods Store is considered the easiest to run. You just need to keep it stocked with items. One worker is required to run a Goods Store. Once your Shop Level rises and you get a lot of customers, and stock higher quality items, this business can be a great earner. As the only business where you can set the price of goods, it can be a great way to earn REP by lowering prices, or raising cash by raising them if REP is of no concern.

The Blacksmith is fairly easy to run as long as you keep it stocked with ore. Prices are set based on the item type and quality, so it always pays to use higher quality ore. The Smithy needs two workers to run effectively. This business can be considered a steady earner, but not spectacular. The only trickiness with the Smithy is making sure you have orders ready on time, but hired workers can be effective in ensuring orders are fulfilled as a priority.

The Apothecary is the most convoluted to run as a player, requiring many ingredients, diagnosis and the crafting time for potions can make it slower. However, the Apothecary can be the highest earner once you start raising the quality of the remedies and can generate great wads of REP. The Apothecary requires just one worker (despite NPC-run ones having two present).
