Summary

Folklore Creatures are unique creatures that the player may run into over the course of the game. Each of these peculiar characters interact with the player in different ways.

Folklore Creatures don’t happen completely at random, instead they occur under strict conditions.

Fred Barleycorn

Fred Barleycorn is a friendly scarecrow who sleeps within Festfield all year round, except for one special day of the year. His origins are unclear, but it is generally thought that he was originally an eccentric Wanderer called Smiley Summersmith, a bard and entertainer who passed away while sleeping propped up against a scarecrow. His spirit didn't want to leave, so he hid in the strawman. On the anniversary of his death, the spirit springs to life and continues to spread happiness for that day.

On the 4th day of summer, Fred Barleycorn will spring to life and bounce around Festfield before heading on to other locations around Summerdown, in order to spread his joy.

As he hops about the Haven, he'll drop Candy Hare and Candy Squirrel, but hitting Fred with a slingshot causes him to fling out an assortment of items, although this will cause him to run off at a much faster pace. Making it harder to follow him. You can track him by listening out for his music playing within a region. Don't be scared of hurting Fred as he has great padding!

Tickling Tom Hookfingers

Tom is a creepy masked character that skips through regions, disrupting the player's items and being a nuisance to the NPCs. His arrival is announced via fog and the jingle of bells. Tom was once a prankster and jester called Tom Hood. He delighted in stealing sweets for fun and grabbing people to scare them for laughs. One day, however, he was reaching into a bush near Simplewood to grab something sparkly, and a Nob cut his hands off with its axe. Tow staggered to Mellowmine where he hid away. He found some hooks and utilised them as hands. One night, a mysterious Fae came across Tom and made a bargain with him. If Tom brought it enough treats, he would give him his hands back. Now, when the sorrowful rains of autumn are about, Tom comes out from his hidey-hole for hijinks.

Tom is active in autumn but only in Mellowfields. Once active Tom will attempt to track the player, grabbing them and shaking items out of their inventory if caught. He’ll also harass any NPC he comes across, inflicting multiple negative traits.

Wyrm

The Wyrm is a giant worm-like creature that burrows and moves through the Wyrm Abyss, deep under Dreadwaters. If the Wyrm sees you it will swerve towards you, so be careful. It will alternate stopping in a tunnel opening to roar. It sure has a big mouth!

Getting caught up in the path of the Wyrm has it spit you back out of its lair.

Throw Lambton Pie into its mouth to have them scooped up and pooped out as valuable Abysstone_Ore.

It is thought that the Wyrm is an ancient descendant of the Lambton Worm and the Loch Ness monster, but that's probably a stretch.

You meet the Wyrm as part of the Forge the Sword story task]].

Mag the Moghog

Mag the Moghog is a benevolent creature that snoozes a lot in Cuckoo Wood. Mag will take three of your items of a set star rating, and spit out 1 of the same at one star rating higher. You won't even need to wipe any drool off them...magical! Mag's backstory is unknown. None even try to guess. Someone said it was a greedy cat that belonged to a witch and ate her fish supper one time too many.

Shuffling Nana

Shuffling Nana is a terrifying monstrosity that was once a human, and is now trapped by the Goddesses in the tomb found in northern Pineshade. Going near Nana reveals her hidden form, and you have seconds before death (and a 1 year Mr Fairweather revival). Nana was a witch who helped the humans during the war with the Fae, and for her treachery, she was entombed and cursed. Her shriek is one of fear of humans coming near her, but this kills them. She has one weakness...she is very allergic to Garlic.
