Summary
You can purchase and befriend a number of different animal types. Some are magical and some are more traditional.
Whilst most animals don't require a huge amount of upkeep, you'll want to make sure you pop back to the farm every once in a while to feed them. A happy animal is a useful animal. As they have a variety of uses that you can take advantage of but only if they're in a good mood.
Use the Whistle menu to keep tabs on your pets. Where they are, how hungry they feel and if they're in a good mood or not. You can also use the whistle to instantly call or send away any one of your active pets.
Keep your animals well-fed and pet them regularly to keep their mood topped up
Pet Feeding
Each animal type has a preference for food and will only eat items found within those categories.
Feeding animals keeps their hunger at bay. When an animal is hungry their mood begins to decrease.
Animal Type | Prefered Food |
---|---|
Dogs |
|
Cats |
|
Pigs |
|
Sheep |
|
Fillifryth |
|
Bumbabloopfnoop |
|
Individual pets also have their favourite foods within those categories. When they're fed a liked item, their mood will increase.
Pet Abilities
Each pet has a variety of abilities that are used in and out of combat.
Keep your pet's mood topped up, because if it drops below a certain threshold they will no longer perform their abilities.
Cow
- Cows remain stationary.
- They can be milked.
- Be sure to use a metal bucket. The wooden one is for poop.
- Build a cow shed to make them happier and reposition them (you can also use the Cow Post to move the cow).
Dog
- When following the player dogs will find digspots. If you walk near one, they'll run off and WOOF WOOF loudly near where you need to look. Get out your shovel and start digging.
- A dog will BARK if a collectable is nearby.
- In combat dogs will stun enemies...barking and yapping to stop their stamina from recharging.
- They also provide a passive +1 Strength to the player's stats.
- Chance of double loot from Hobs and Greater Nobs.
- You can buy dogs from Goods Stores and Kane Hines in Naida's Glory (or whoever replaces him).
Cat
- When following the player cats will react to ghosts. If you walk near one, they'll act distressed and HISS. Get your Obscura out for a quick scan of the area to find the ghost.
- In combat cats will reduce the Strength, Toughness and Constitution of all Hags by 2.
- They also provide a passive +1 Intelligence to the player's stats.
- Chance of double loot from Forest Hags, Water Hags, Night Hags, Banshees and Remnants.
- Buy cats from Hazel Nutt in Cuckoo Wood (or whoever replaces her when she is gone).
Pig
- When in a good mood, pigs can be ridden, which is faster than running yourself.
- Inflated pigs can be popped for pork.
- In combat pigs will ram into enemies, dealing damage and resetting their stamina.
- They also provide a passive +1 Toughness to the player's stats.
- Chance of double loot from Barghests and Croakers.
- You can get pigs from the Animal Auction in Festival Green.
Sheep
- Sheep can have their wool dyed.
- When in a good mood, sheep can also be ridden.
- In combat rams will ram into enemies, dealing damage and reducing their Toughness by 3.
- In combat ewes will run in front of an enemy and jump back and forth, causing them to fall asleep for a while or until the next hit.
- After sleeping the enemy will also have their Stamina reduced by 3.
- Chance of double loot from Fachens, Ogyrs and Nobs.
- You can buy sheep from the Animal Auction in FineFayre.
Chicken
- Chickens lay eggs daily (unless you have a contrary curse active). Make sure to do the rounds and pick them all up.
- You can slingshot chickens to make them drop an egg once a day, though this lowers their mood.
- Chickens can be bought from the Animal Auction in FestField.
Bumbablooppfnoop
- They can be milked.
- In combat Bumbabloopfnoop can heal you.
- They also provide a passive +2 Toughness to the player's stats.
- Chance of double loot from Elite variations of enemies.
- You can get a Bumbabloopfnoop by growing one in the southeastern glade of Tir Na Nog.
